Data roles in Oracle Fusion HCM are derived from job roles and represent a combination of an employee’s job role and the specific data they are authorized to access. These data roles define the data instances that employees can interact with and perform their job roles on. Without these data roles, employees would not have access to any data within the system.

To illustrate this concept, let’s consider an example. Suppose Mr. X holds the data role of ‘Payroll Manager US.’ This implies that Mr. X is a Payroll Manager with access to payroll data specifically for employees in the United States. Mr. X can view and manage payroll-related tasks exclusively for US employees and cannot access data from any other country. Similarly, if Ms. B holds the ‘Payroll Manager India’ role, she can perform tasks and manage data solely for Indian employees and no other country.

The process of creating data roles involves inheriting the attributes of a job role and extending it with data scope. Additional authorization entitlements can be appended to the data role using the Authorization Policy Manager. Data roles are established within Oracle Identity Manager.

It is essential to note that you should create security profiles before creating data roles. Here are the steps to create data roles:

Step 1: Log in to the Fusion application.

Step 2: Navigate to ‘Others’ and select ‘Setup and Maintenance.’

Step 3: Search for ‘Manage Data Role and Security Profiles’ and click on ‘Manage Data Role & Security Profiles.’

Step 4: Click on the ‘Create’ button.

Step 5: Provide the name of the job role on which you want to base the data role.

Step 6: Click ‘Next.’

Step 7: Specify custom security profile names or choose the ‘View All’ option to grant access to all data.

Step 8: Review and verify the profile names you provided earlier.

Step 9: Submit the data role. It is now ready to be assigned and can be assigned through Oracle Identity Manager.

Step 10: To confirm that the data role has been successfully created, search for the newly created data role.”

By following these steps you can successfully create the Data Roles in Oracle Fusion HCM.
