This blog post pertains to the Oracle Fusion 21C release, and it’s important to note that the steps outlined below may undergo changes in future releases.
Here are the steps for migrating roles from one instance to another:
Step 1:
Exporting the Roles:
- Access the Setup and Maintenance page by clicking on the profile icon.

Step 2:
- In the top left corner, select ‘Financials’ from the Setup drop-down menu.
- Within the financials menu, choose ‘Users and Security.’
- Select the ‘Export’ option, followed by ‘Create New.’

Step 3:
- A warning pop-up box will appear; click ‘Yes’ to proceed.
- In the ‘Show’ drop-down menu, choose ‘All’
- Unselect any unwanted business objects, only keeping the ones needed.
- Click the ‘Add’ option.

Step 4:
Search and select the roles you must migrate, then click ‘Apply.’
Once you’ve chosen the required roles, click ‘Save and Close.’

Step 5:
- Confirm by clicking ‘OK’ on the pop-up box.
- The export process will begin.
- To monitor the export progress, click ‘Exporting setup data’ under financials.

Step 6:
- When a warning pop-up box appears, click ‘View Progress.’

Step 7:
- Keep refreshing until the export process is successfully completed.
- Finally, click ‘Download File’ to obtain a zip file.

Step 8:
Importing the Roles:
- Log in to the target instance.
- Access the Setup and Maintenance page via the profile icon.
- In the top right corner, select ‘Financials’ from the Setup drop-down menu.
- Within the financials menu, choose ‘Users and Security.’
- Select the ‘Import’ option, then click ‘Create New.’

Step 9:
- When a warning pop-up box appears, click ‘Yes.’
- Click ‘Choose file’ and then upload the zip file that was downloaded previously.
- Uncheck the ‘Last Import’ option
- Click ‘Submit.’

Step 10:
- When a confirmation pop-up box appears, click ‘OK.’
- Check the importing status under ‘Financials.’

- Click ‘View Progress.’

- Keep refreshing until the process is successfully completed.

Step 11:
Running the ESS Jobs:
- After the import process has been successfully completed, two ESS jobs have to be run for the roles to be shown in the Oracle application.
- Run the Retrieve Latest LDAP Changes.
- Send all the LDAP Requests jobs that are pending.

Note:
- The zip file has to be twice imported in the target instance.
- Check whether the roles are migrated successfully to the target instance.
- The Data Security Policies shall be missing in some cases. If so, kindly reimport the zip file and continue refreshing until the process successfully completed.
- Then, run the above-mentioned ESS jobs.
By following the given steps, you can successfully migrate the Roles in Oracle Fusion.
